Not much waste - instead of keeping the flame trap low down, move it up as high as possible - helps keep it clean! Did that with my last 740GLE, vast improvement in the running, economy etc and Volvo themselves did it with certain models (think it was only 2.0 turbos or 2.0 carbs, not sure which) - never worked out why they had the flame trap so low down where it could easily get oil contaminated!
If memory serves, it's 16mm bore so any spare will be handy for repairing heater hoses.
