Yes you are right , all new volvo models have had a powerful electric heating element in the heater casing since 2004 , you get warm air within a minute certainly quicker than the electric screen takes to start working , The electric screen is a marketing tool to keep up with other makes of car offering one .. .. They have never been necessary in volvos ( Except the 300 series ! ) and that includes the 140 series which won an award from MOTOR magazine as having the best and quickest warming heater of any car they tested .( 35 C was recorded ) !
