That said, this looks like a nice example - can see it's had a few bodywork bits and bobs in the past by the photos but I'd estimate it would be worth somewhere between £1500 - 2500.
I think that is a very fair assessment, Steve, although for the O.P.'s sake I hope that it would be towards the upper end of that range. I also feel that Alan is very much on the money apropos 2 series cars.

To compare a 3 series car and it's larger cousins is a little like comparing apples with oranges; they are, as you rightly say, quite different cars. In among the 2 and 7 series, I ran both an '86 365GL and a 1.7 '88 344GLE for business purposes racking up a considerable mileage in each. My late MIL also had an '83 365GLE for many years.

We also had a test drive in a 1.4, but felt it a little underpowered; they are quite heavy cars, after all. In our view, while they were a cut above contemporary Fords and the like, they were not built to traditional Volvo standards. They also had a greater propensity to rust, so a survivor in good condition may yet surprise us price wise.

I too wish the O.P. good fortune in selling his car. It would be good if it went to an enthusiast member of this forum, but most will almost certainly have at least one example already. I think the O.P. might do better by offering the car on one of the specialist classic platforms, or even by entering it for auction with someone like Matthewsons'. Either would mean greater exposure and a wider audience without, hopefully, becoming involved with one of the 'chancers' that seem to haunt some other sites these days.

Regards, John.
