Default Reverse gear locking mechanism broken

I have a manual LHD 2002 V40. When I got it, gear selection was very difficult and shortly after, it broke down. Volvo replaced the bushings and linkage so the car now drives fine again but they said that the reverse gear locking mechanism is broken which means that I can select reverse gear without having to pull the plastic ring up and it does not come down by itself.

I am replacing the radio and a few bits and bobs and so, I have taken off the gaiter around the shifter. The bits I have are a knob, a spring and a leather gaiter. I wonder if anyone has any pictures or similar so that I can see what is supposed to be there and how it fits together?
