I had a V60 with a 1.6d engine, could be the same engine. It was fairly flat in the V60, the V70 is a heavier car. I was a very happy bunny to get back to a 2.0d, better economy by about 15-20% as well!
Did the OP actually drive it at any stage and it feel lively? I have not seen confirmation of that yet.
