No gaskets or seals needed UNLESS the metal gasket between the ETM and EGR gets bent (no reason why it should get bent accept accidentally)

I haven't disconnected the battery. So long as the engine is off and has been for over 10mins I would suggest the engine is closed down. No key in ignition I would suggest is the minimum precaution.

Easy ? Very easy if you can hold a wrench or screwdriver and remove some pipes.... just time consuming or dirty work. The results are worth it. The pipe isn't supposed to be that restricted and will help the car breath.
