Other that, if you are able to drive it some distance the alternator is good. I would check for drain.

this is definitely not quite correct.. if your alternator is only putting out 12.1 the it is seriously failing or there is another issue. your battery will need at least >12.6 to charge and substantially more to charge fast. 12.6 would be a conditioning voltage perhaps for an almost full battery.....
