Question XC90 headrest not releasing when stowing rear seat

Hello there,

I'm new to this forum so please bear with me if I've posted this in the wrong area!

I have a 2004 XC90 and I often adapt the flexible seating to meet my requirements - however, when folding down the rear-most seats (6+7), the headrest does not drop forwards so the seat can be stowed flat. This only happens on one seat, the other works fine.

I have noticed that there is a cable attached to the bottom of the seat back which, when you fold the seat forward, is tensioned and should release the catch which in turn unlocks the headrest. The cable is attached, appears to be tight etc, but even if I pull on the cable with pliers the headrest still does not release. I have applied some WD40 to the locking mechanism which is just visible inside the top of the seat back, but to no avail.

I have unsuccessfully searched online for other instances of this problem, so I was hoping that someone on here may have experienced this issue before and knows how to resolve it. I have managed to get the seat flat by sliding the middle rear seat in front of it forwards, but it is no longer flush with the other seats and legroom is restricted, so it's not an ideal solution.

Hope someone can help!
Cheers
Jim
