Default Retro fitting a fuel filter housing with primer pump

Hi,
I have a 2005 v50 2.0d 136bhp with air bubbles im the fuel lines,
Im thinking of completely removing the original volvo housing and hoses and retro fitting a housing with a built in primer pump (plunger type) like in the attached picture.

My only concern is what does the electrical connection on the top of the original volvo housing do ?
And can i leave it unplugged or bypass it without any problem?

Im wanting to use a metal canister type filter coupled with hose and jubilee clips instead of the troublesome original push fitting hose connections.

Regards.
