Tyre inflator kits are fine for small punctures but are useless after you have driven 100yds on the rim and cut the tyre wall cos you realised too late the puncture had occurred. I remember heavy rain, dark road in the middle of nowhere and no mobile signal and I really appreciated the space saver spare in the boot. - A puncture repair kit would not have got me home.

I've often wondered about the wisdom of the modern trend by manufacturers in removing the spare, replacing it with a can of gloop. Often, any puncture on a motorway will damage the sidewall beyond safe re inflation.
