Default volvo 240 (1991) barely dented passenger side door

hi everyone
hope this doesn't make everyone angry but we had a nasty ice storm here in
asheville, and my honda front left bumper brushed the rear passenger side door of a 1991 volvo 240, 4 door sedan. the "recommended" bodyshops are quoting ridiculous repair costs, which all result in the guy's volvo being worth less than the repair. he doesn't want it totaled; it runs fine. i had heard of an "old school" method of repairing dents on old quality cars: drill a hole in the metal, insert a tool that changes to a T-shape, then smack it toward you to pop the metal back into place. then bondo the drilled hole. the volvo owner wants to have it repainted anyway on his dime. also, the door still opens fine.
so my questions are: would the above tool work better or would a suction-cup puller work?
how much do replacement doors cost, and are they really hard to find?
anybody know anyone in the club in the western NC area, who might be able to look at the car and give advice?

thanks so so much
i am trying to help this man to keep his loved volvo!
