Not really wordwide or on all cars as many have press fit bearings.

This video shows how checking the condition of the rings is one of the first things to do when you get the warning light especially as it's much more likely the issue than a sensor.
Fair enough on repairing but replacing the ring is the best way to go for most seeing as they're less than £3.
