I do as much as I can myself, but things like timing belts or jobs requiring heavy lifting or access from underneath (clutch, gearbox, engine mounts and the like) I leave to a garage, usually an independent specialist.
Doing it yourself saves money without a doubt, but there's the caveat that you don't have an "official" service history. That said I do keep a note of what I've done, when I've done it and how much I've spent.
