I don't think much of the S40/V50 era of Volvo's as these were pretty naff comapred to the early Volvos. I assume you are referring to 2004-2010 ish generation of cars.

I'd get an S60 out of the lot. Better interior, larger car, comfy and easily available in D5 trim and the T5's do crop up and go really well if running spot on.

I do 800-1000 miles a week in 2000 C70 T5 auto. I do not drive for economy but easily avevrage 38mpg on a motorway run and around 32mpg between fills of mixed motorway and urban traffic with the return run daily being terrible M25 and Berkshire traffic.

As for a 2.0 petrol, why anyone would get one rather than a T5 is beyond me as you only have to press on harder to make the 2.0 shift therefore making the difference in fuel economy neglible.
