However, removing prop shaft is probably further than I want to go with the time and facilities available to me.
So, a couple of questions.
Mine is an early XC90 (2003). I presume this will be Haldex 3. If so, the filter appears to be accessible without removing prop. Is this correct?
Secondly, will there be much value to changing out as much oil as I can and replacing filter (if possible), or am I just wasting my time? My thinking is that 70% fresh oil is better than 100% old oil.

Has anyone any experience with Haldex units on the early XC90s?
On the Haldex 3 the filter can definitely be changed with the prop and exhaust in situ.

You only need to remove the prop if the pump has failed or you want to clean the integrated filter on the pump.

If the pump is working ok now, I would change the filter and fluid and that alone will be a worthwhile job.👍
