I’ve been experimenting for the last 6 weeks with driving mode and changing manually with the steering wheel paddles. I’ve just managed to get 48mpg out of a tank of petrol on my normal commute, however it’s a really pain in the arse to do!! My usual figure is 35mpg.

I’ve put the car in eco mode and then tapped the upshift basically every 30 seconds or so. Essential I think the set points for the transmission for eco could be dramatically improved if Volvo really wanted to offer much improved fuel consumption, the down side is that the car isn’t responsive at lower speed (as it’s in a higher gear).
