S40 Rear boot struts
Hi All,
I was minding my own business the other day when I found that my boot would not close. The reason was that the plastic end of one of the hydraulic struts had broken off and the strut itself was blocking the boot from shutting. I looked at the one on the other side and it was nearly broken too.
I had a look around the internet and there was a massive variation in price for a pair of struts. I think Volvo was around £100+, Eurocarparts around £50 with their habitual discount and I saw buycarparts.co.uk with a range of compatible struts. The cheapest were £7 each (Ridex - never heard of them) + £8.50 delivery. So I bought these and they arrived two days later from Germany. They looked fine and appear to be good quality.
The old struts were massively easy to remove, just carefully lever off at each end with a screwdriver and then push hardish with the new ones and they click into place. That's it. 60 seconds start to finish and £22.50. Massively impressed.
As far as I'm concerned the website seems good and the product too. I'll update this thread if I notice anything going south, but otherwise I just thought I'd let people know.
