They probably thought you know nothing about cars or you'd be doing it yourself and ignored it.

Similar case in point, a car was put into a garage with an intermittent window fault and the owner advised the garage it was almost certainly the fusebox in need of being resoldered.
The garage didn't listen and diagnosed a part that rarely, if ever, fails. They pulled this out and resoldered it, causing a fatal fault on it. They also disconnected the battery with the keys in the ignition, locking the immobiliser out permanently.

Result - completely dead car!
