Dave that sounds a real nightmare.
It's all fixed. Timing was off.
Car is smoother when starting and more quiet.
FYI for anyone in the future.
Set piston 1 to Top dead centre (TDC)
put dog dish fly wheel on so the missing holes on the edge are in line with where the starter motor is.
