The concept of the steering lock operating while the car is moving is horrific. Once you interfere with any of the ECU functions without knowing what the possible, even if unlikely, repercussions might be, you are risking real danger. I've never heard of this problem with other cars where chip tuning is common but Volvo do deliberately make it difficult for owners to have their ECU mapping altered other than through the Polestar route. If this fault is really due to "unauthorised chipping" I can see another reason to pay the extra and have the Polestar upgrade. I'm beginning to feel less aggrieved about the cost I paid for my Polestar upgrade and a little bit safer if such a horrific condition can be triggered by non Volvo interference with the ECU.
