How many miles ago was 6 months ??

You get more fuel contamination from the DPF in winter, so it can easily finish up that you are using a 5w20. Most new Volvo engines are supposed to use an 0w30 that is very close to the 40 category.

In general terms if you get a hot idle or cold start rattle, try the following:

1/ Change the oil & filter and make sure to use a real Volvo filter
2/ If that fails, see what happens if you move up one grade one grade to an 0 or 5w40.
3/ Try an idle only flush oil additive (Not if you already have any oil leaks) when changing the oil.

PS: This does not sound like lifter tick, just thin hot oil causing what sounds like a bearing noise.
