While there is obvious burn damage, it doesn't necessarily look like it needs urgent correction.

I have had the car for since 2017 and it’s had a mixture of being serviced by Volvo and by myself. We cannot recall a ‘burning smell’ but is definitely happens whilst we have owned the car. The third photo shows the underside of the engine top cover and it does have signs of heat.
