Indeed, the belts are a common issue. Don't forget to change the tensioner! I wouldn't just presume that the belts have been done, especially as you say its 'supposed' to have Volvo history (It either has or it hasn't). Check if there's any paperwork/Invoice's for servicing etc with the car & if there's no mention of the timing belt, aux belts & tensioner being replaced, then I'd recommend getting them done fairly soon.

I think your car will still take JWS3309 trans fluid, but I'm not certain on that to be honest. I know that Volvo changed the trans fluid type in recent/newer models to JWS3324, but I don't think your car being a '59' plate will fall into that bracket. Your best bet would be to check the owners manual to see what's listed in there.

As for the swirl flaps, I'm not sure about whether the euro 5's have them.
