For a modern engine to be 'badly smoking' then this can't be the oil control rings on the pistons if that were the case the engine would be absolutely knackered and the oil will be very blue and smell of burnt oil. I haven't seen an engine physically burning oil in such an obvious way since the 1990's where valve stem seals and piston rings did actually wear out.
This must be white smoke (steam) so there's water getting into a combustion chamber, and the 'eggy' smell is the steam's reaction with the CAT.
