Just to clarify above, my recent experience confirmed that non 5-pot engine cars can in fact have key coded in non-volvo dealership. It will only work to start the car (no remote fob) but cost fraction of dealer job.
eric - if you need spare for your 1.8 S40, worth checking around for spare key, but for your 2.4 sorry, out of luck, as Clan said - dealer only
