I’m not sure about the newer cars, they may have different issues. I have managed to repair a few myself now, but it does involve a bit of patience. I have found that I need to look through a large magnifying glass while I re-solder the joints, as it’s not until you look through a glass that you See the borders you need to keep within. Also the post you mention says “just remove the lid”. This in itself can be a little tricky if you haven’t done it before, as it needs to be cut off with the help of a hacksaw. You can make a neat job if you know how to remove it but I am talking about the 850, v70/c70 models.
