deplug the hose from the vacuumpump which goes to the brake booster and put your hand on the vacuumpump.
when i do this on my engine, after a few seconds the engine stops popping....and my hand hurts cause of the vacuum
so you could find out if the seal on the vacuumpump is leaking. iam pretty sure its not
