Sorry about my confused mind, but when you suspect the driveshaft, do you mean the axle itself or the inner CV joints (the ones closer to the transmission, the joint to the right in the picture below)? Is it even possible to change the inner CV joints only or does the whole shaft (including inner joints) have to be replaced?

The illustration of the driveshaft you have posted is the nearside shaft for a Renault box. Your shafts look like you have a Volvo gearbox in your car and will be different to the illustration.
Both the inner and outer CV joints can be replaced on the shaft.
