I then realised this nasty noise from behind the steering wheel only occured when turning with the indicators on.

So, im guessing the self cancelling function for the indicators on the column has failed.

Anybody got any experience with this before i dig into tearing the cowling of the column off? How does the cancelling system work and what is likely to have failed?

Thanks

Is is probably the stalk , there is a little white plastic piece sticks out when you operate the indicators , a lug on the steering wheel knocks it to turn the indicator stalk off .
