In all likelihood, your current engine is damaged beyond the possibility of economic repair. You could spend quite a bit of money proving that. Scrap value will be next to nothing as compared to a running vehicle.
I'd therefore be considering a second-hand unit from a scrapper and using a good independent to fit it. There are currently MY 2010 D5 units being advertised on eBay for between £1k and £3k. If in good condition, I'd say (based on Autotrader today) that in working condition your car would be worth somewhere between 7k and 9k in a private sale.
