I used nail varnish remover, but only on the blue sealant around the chip. No sign of anything else dissolving.
I just ran the soldering iron over the pins until the solder melted (went shiny) then cleaned between the pins with the end of a needle to make sure that none were bridged.
I didn't need a magnifying glass, all I did was take a picture on my camera at the end and zoom in to look for any bridged pins.
Took about 30mins all in.
Never soldered anything else in my life. Simple.
