I'm not sure it's specifically related to Ford. There's pretty decent support for old Escorts (mk1, mk2), etc...as there is for old Volvos (Amazons, etc)...but the 80s stuff is where we suffer. The manufacturers just don't think there's demand...AND they think it's keeping us from buying new cars. Both wrong, for most people, in my eyes.
