I have read that the Plod spec V70 diesels had a extra special Polestar map. They should have been reverted to standard before being released for civilian use but few where. You might have an extra special car...
"Chipping" blue light vehicles is common practice, I know the Volvo based fire engines are also chipped to deliver significant extra power - not for outright speed but getting a heavy vehicle with a very heavy load off the line quickly to reduce response times.
