1) *lots* of people buy Volvos because they think they can skimp on servicing them. This seems to be a state of mind in the richer parts of society, whereas DIY fixes are commonly found in the poorer parts. So lots of people here buy volvos cheap, after they have been subjected to ridiculous levels of neglect. What you are reading here are *fixes* for these situations.
2) In the last eleven days I've driven my D5 163 nearly 3,000 miles,climbed 4 alpine passes and sat in traffic from -7c up to +24c in 5 cities across 3 countries. If there was a reliability issue, I'd have found it. And my car is from 2001: we *think* it went at least 40,000 miles without a service, in the hands of some chump who liked the sound of his own opinions on cars and maintenance, much more than he liked silent tappets, working rear brakes, an airtight turbo intake system, working electrics. He must have taken it to Stevie Wonder's garage for the MOT...
