This morning I was de-icing the car when the belt that drives the alternator let go. I realised straight away what it was and reached in and shut down the engine. First job tomorrow is to take off the wheel and liner and see what is going on. The engine kept running so I am optimistic the timing belt is okay. I won't be turned over again until I'm sure there is no debris in there to affect the timing belt.

I would like to order parts tonight but am somewhat confused. Does it have one aux belt or two? Can anyone recommend a good online retailer for the belt(s) and tensioner as the place I usually use is out of stock.

Thought I'd put this here rather than starting a new thread. Plus it reinforces the messages above. Car on 72000 miles broken belt obviously life expired with cracks in the vees.
You really do not know how lucky you have been .. someone up there is looking after you ...

Don't be foolish and throw all that good luck away again and buy non genuine parts , make sure you get the Volvo parts ...
The belt should have been changed at 54000 miles I guess it was not . Also see your dealer , make sure all the belt/tensioner recalls have been done ..
