The fact that volvo put a scuff plate there for this very function means
It is ok to have scuff marks on it .
The Morgan sports cars have an aluminium block screwed to the chassis rails for this very function too as do other manufacturers no doubt ..

Sorry, Clan, I meant to say if the tyres touch the plate
when stationary it will fail ! I am thinking of fitting 5mm spacers anyway which should/might eliminate the issue!
