Given there is huge over-supply as every manufacturer piles into SUVs, it's hardly surprising if Volvo has taken a cautious approach to anticipated volumes. They will be thinking - if we can balance supply to be just below the demand then we can charge full price for every car with the result that we and our dealers make more money. I'm sure they don't want to return to having to heavily discount like they had to do for the original XC60 for the last few years of its life. Whether the XC40 will attain Evoque-like cachet in the long term is very debatable though, especially with the new Evoque so close to be released. Good luck to them. Meanwhile back in the real world, I'm waiting for this time next year to see how things lie and hoping that Volvo's strategy backfires on them and I can buy an XC40 at a big discount otherwise it may have to be a Karoq.
