Oil where you would expect water (or vise-versa) would generally be a pretty significant problem...know thine sensors(!), and their locations! Especially on an injected car, a shop manual is/should be your first source of information.

Always be as specific as possible when giving symptoms and conditions..."half the dials not working" is not, especially when some (Oil Temp, Coolant Temp, Fuel Level) of the instruments of the E model require the output of VStabilizer (NOT V Regulator!), other instruments do not. Typical failure mode is that instruments read high when VStab fails to cycle from the closed/full output voltage condition).
