So, I trust all my servicing work to the mechanic in my village.

Last year I bought the oil and filter for him to do the oil change. i got Castrol Magnatec 10/40 which I understand is the recommended oil but at £24 for 4 litres x 2 (so £48 in total) it works out pretty expensive.

My mechanic buys oil in bulk and I'm sure it would be cheaper for me to use his oil. It will be a quality brand but I won't know what specification it is, I will just have to leave it to him.

So the question is, are these old engines (mines done 112k miles) sensitive to oil spec or are they not too fussy? Shall I let him use whatever he thinks fit?
