The front shock absorber code is the 3rd & 4th digits.
So in your case, your spring code is "marked" 65.
Your shock absorber is "marked" 33.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the explanation, the plot thickens, as you'll be able to tell I've spent far to long on this ...
The 'marked 65' part number is 30714368, putting that into eBay gives a spring for a V50, some of the listings are for KYB who according to their 2018 catalogue don't do a front spring for my C30.
My local Volvo dealer gave me a part number of 30715772 for an eye watering £120.50 +VAT, which so far as I can tell doesn't exist.
Looking on the Kilen catalogue, the correct spring is 26016, the Volvo part is 30666204.
In the end, I gave up & ordered a spring from a very helpful eBay dealer. Hopefully it'll fit & I'll never need to replace it, but if I do, I'll buy a 30714368 equivalent.
For some reason, the back end springs were a lot easier to sort.
Next stop, some skinned knuckles, a bit of swearing & hopefully a new MOT.
Thanks again for the decode.
