Indeed, the big advantage of ABS is that it copes with the human panic factor, where people press haarder and hard in the hope of stopping.
They don't, the wheels are locked and can't go any slower!!

Hence the cadence braking (and I suspect that a driving course will help tremendiously) can assist. BUT it is preperation for the unexpected that allows you to apply cadence braking.
Knowing how to cadence brake, does not necessarily mean that you will apply that knowledge!

Happened with me on a hill with ice/snow. Car just wouldn't stop. Blind panic takes over and the pressure on the brake peddle increased..!!!
Didn't stop the car though, the opposite kerb did.
