Default VVT-hub question

I'm about to replace the VVT-hub on my Volvo V40 2002 1.8 litre non GDI engine.
There are two kinds of hubs on the Volvo engines, one with some sort of spring loaded helix gear and one with vanes inside the hub. Mine has the newer kind with vanes.
There are no marks to indicate which position the hub is supposed to be at when mounted.
Question: Does it matter how the hub is mounted? In other words,-does it need to be mounted in a particular position or can it just be slid into place and fastened like a non-VVT sprocket would?
