Default RE: "Courtesy Car" or "Hire Car"

It is likely to be possible to get your own insurer to cover you for the loan car, but it my not be any cheaper due to the charges some insurers are now making.

My girlfriend has just changed cars. She notified her insurer in plenty of time, and requested a cover note so the dealer could tax the vehicle and she could pick it up. They failed to send the docs out, so she had to arrange to collect the car another day.

This morning she received her paperwork, and discovered that her insurer had charged her £15 'admin fee' for a change of vehicle for one day; following their error, they charged her another £15 for changing again, plus £1.64 for sending copy documents, even though they admit they failed to send the first lot. On the phone they have now agreed to refund the money, but without apology - they say many insurers charge these fees. Needless to say they have now lost a customer.

I called my own insurer to ask about loan car cover - they said they would 'probably' do it for nothing.
