I have had my engine light on my 1996 850 diesel for at least 7 years! It has been on since I altered the pump timing slightly because of poor starting. I have never done anything about it. If the car starts ok, runs without too much smoke and has decent fuel economy, I would just leave it alone. Just recently the bulb has now failed, so jobs a good one!!
