I take it that it's manual then if it has no dipstick tube? On this pdf, Pg5 (by document viewer page number) shows how to decipher your VIN code to find out what sort of transmission, brakes etc you should have.

Perhaps you can post a pic of the gear selector if it is auto and/or an underbonnet pic - that would help identify the box if it is auto.   |
Wouldn't the number of pedals tell you what style of box it has? IIRC the 3-litre cars only ever had an automatic box while the 2.5-litre ones had the option of the M90 manual one.
