As you cant determine where the break is, may I suggest either spurring off the good wire (the number plate light that works) or putting a double connector on the good bulb holder and feed the cable through to the light that doesnt work - the power will be on the same feed so should not get any warnings I would have thought.
will save you trying to locate the break and removing all sorts of trim.
