Default cleaning hydraulic tappets

Its a long story (and all my fault) but I'll be pulling the head off my '97 S70 T5 in a few weeks time. While that is off, I intend to clean the hydraulic tappets as they are a bit noisy - I suspect they're full of gunge as the PO didn't seem to service it very often...

Anyway, once I have them out of the engine, what do you propose I soak them in? I am thinking of Jizer as that should start to break down the gunge allowing me to take the tappets apart. Is there a better, more effective product that you would recommend? I don't really want to use a paint solvent as I'll be leaving them to soak over a day or so most likely - and the garage will fill with fumes and might go up with a bang when the freezer motor kicks in

TIA
