I remember the service book showed a shorter interval but had a sheet stapled over the top to say it had been changed for the later cars.
The service sheets used by the main dealers at services also show 90,000m.

Hmmm. In fact that is not quite right, I just checked and the sheet actually shows it to be changed at 90,000 then 186,000 then 234,000. Whats that about?

Yes you are missing something,

It’s about 15 quid to buy and takes about an hour to change including putting in the kettle and drinking a tea.

Should the belt fail it will likly get caught up in the timing belt or other parts of the engine and potentially write it off. Just change it.
