My PV444 has a Bosch charging relay. Although the ammeter on the dash indicated that the car would charge, the car seemed to have a weak start after running and I thought it might actually be running off of the battery. Putting on the headlights, the ammeter would fall into discharge territory.
I pulled the cover off of the charging relay and internally things look clean. But after failing to ferret out how to properly test and adjust the relay, I simply cleaned all of the contacts. Voila! Now it seems to be charging at a distinctly stronger level – at least as measured by the dashboard ammeter gauge.
I like it when I can accidentally fix things by accident!
