Thanks Michael - it worked!
The trick was to use a long thin screwdriver, and then lever OUTWARDS the spring-loaded mushroom shaped bolt.
The second bolt is much more difficult, because swinging the first bolt clear of the slot tightens the bolt on the other side.
Ideally 2 people would simultaneously retract and then extract both bolts at the same time.
